3M 5421

3M™ UHMW Polyethylene Tape 5421

3M™ UHMW Polyethylene Tape 5421 is a thinner version of 5423, coated with a rubber adhesive that bonds on contact. The UHMW-PE backing outlasts PTFE and other materials in sliding applications. In 3M testing, the tape showed no evidence of wear-through after 1,000 Taber Abrasion cycles using a CS-10 wheel and 1,000 g load when applied to an S-37 mounting sheet. This makes it well suited for tough impact-wear and sliding applications where lubrication is not possible because of contamination.

Applications include: Noise reduction between dissimilar parts, lining conveyor flat guide rails, tank and bin liners, discharge chutes, protecting aluminum sheets on stretch-forming presses, spray booth liners, and slick glide surfaces for drawers and cabinets.

  • No wear-through after 1000 Taber Abrasion cycles
  • Low water vapor transmission rate
  • Low coefficient of friction, exceeded only by PTFE
  • Liner-backed for easy fabricating and die-cutting
