Specialty Materials and Adhesives for Large and Small Appliance Assembly

Appliance manufacture

Appliance manufacturers trust Engineered Materials to improve the aesthetics, performance, and reliability of their products. We design and fabricate a full line of pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) tapes, gasketing materials, insulations, and many other flexible appliance components, everything a manufacturer needs for large or small appliances.

Our engineers understand the manufacturing process and operating environments of any appliance, commercial or residential. We know how operating temperatures, humidity, vibrations, and chemical exposure can limit the effectiveness of industrial tape and other foam and rubber appliance parts, and we take these environmental factors into account with the products we supply.

Operator Manufacture

We help you select materials (foam, rubber, silicone, films, etc.) that operate effectively and increase the durability of your products. Combine that with our custom fabrication process, which ensures those parts are the perfect fit for any appliance you manufacture, and you’ll get the most effective part every time.

Whether you’re looking to bond two irregular surfaces together, seal air and moisture, gap fill, insulate or shield heat or cold, or distribute and limit stress on your appliance, we can help you create a custom piece that gets the job done.

Pressure Sensitive Adhesive Tape

Improve the Performance, Durability, and Aesthetics of Your Appliances

Pressure sensitive adhesive tapes provide a smooth and sleek finish to any appliance. When used in place of nuts, bolts, screws, and other traditional fasteners, they provide wide-ranging benefits that increase the performance and longevity of modern appliances.

  • Noise reduction

  • Vibration dampening and resistance

  • Heat shielding and heat flow control

  • More precise and repeatable manufacturing

  • Elimination of drill holes

  • Greater impact and shock resistance

  • Increase in appliance durability and longevity

  • Weight reduction: reduce appliance weight and shipping costs

  • Better for sealing and gasketing applications

  • Stronger bond of dissimilar materials, and rigid substrates

Discovery

We take the time to get to understand the appliances you manufacture and the conditions in which they operate. What are you trying to accomplish? What are the materials used in your appliance? What are the operating conditions of the appliance? What works for an oven may not be effective for a refrigerator or freezer. There are also certain environmental conditions to take into consideration, including temperature and humidity, inside vs. outside use, potential contact with solvents, chemicals, or fuels, direct or indirect exposure to ultraviolet radiation, expected stress, impacts, and vibrations, and so much more.

Selection

Material Selection

Choosing the right materials depends on the surfaces being bonded, their texture, and the environment in which the appliance will be used. High surface energy (HSE) materials like metal and certain plastics (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, polystyrene, polycarbonate, etc., may use firmer, stronger acrylic tapes, while low surface energy (LSE) materials like powder-coated or painted metals and polyethylene may require highly tackified acrylic or rubber tapes. Using the wrong PSA tape on a surface will cause the adhesive to be ineffective and the part to detach. We help you select the right material and adhesive coat weight based on the appliance you are manufacturing and its operating conditions.

Fabrication

Custom Fabrication

We custom fabricate all our materials to create the perfect fitting part for your appliance, every time. From laminating to slitting, die cutting, kiss cuts, laser and waterjet cutting, and so much more, we have the capabilities and experience to create any custom shape that fits your adhesive, gasketing, sealing, or insulation needs. Not sure exactly what you need? No worries! Our parts design specialists can help you with product design, prototyping, testing, and implementation of brand-new parts for your appliances!
